Bekin, Tara win BSL Powerlifting title

 Bekin Joshi and Tara Khaiju have clinched the title of the first BSL district-wide powerlifting competition here recently. Joshi and Khaiju represent Azima Fitness and Club Desperado respectively.

Joshi had beaten 46 competitors in the bodybuilding competition organised by Bhadgaon Sports and Leisure (BSL). He lifted a total of 565 kg in the competition. Out of the three events, Joshi lifted 135 kg in bench press, 210 kg in squat and 220 kg in deadlift. He is also the winner of the over 65 kg weight category. His body weight is 76.45 kg.

Similarly, Khaiju won the women’s title after beating 14 contestants. Tara, who was also the winner of the 55 kg weight category, lifted a total of 295 kg. She lifted 55 kg in bench press, 106 kg in squat and 134 kg in deadlift. She weighs 56.55 kg. Along with the title, Joshi and Khaiju received Rs 65,000 in cash.

The competition was organised in five weight groups with the technical assistance of Bhaktapur Physical Fitness Association. According to Surendra Bhele, coordinator of the event, the competition was held in the men’s 65 kg, over 65 kg and in the men’s master group over 45 years of age. On the women’s side, they competed in two weight groups of 55 kg and 55 kg. Each event of the competition held at Bhadgaon Sports and Leisure in Sipadol, Suryabinayak Municipality-8, Bhaktapur was played in three rounds. Sports Minister Maheshwar Jung Gahatraj distributed cash prizes along with shields, medals and certificates to the winners of the competition.
