Maoist objects UML’s role in govt

January 4, 2009

The central secretariat meeting of the CPN-Maoist has strongly objected to the role of CPN-UML, the major coalition partner in the Maoist-led government.

“We will raise the issue at the meeting of the High Level Political Coordination Committee as the UML is playing a dual role– ruling and the opposition,” secretariat member of the CPN-Maoist C.P. Gajurel told journalists.

The statements made by some responsible leaders and groups of the CPN-UML were irresponsible and against the norms and ethics of the ruling partners, Gajurel said.

Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed about Party’s unification with CPN-Unity Centre (Mashal), CPN-Unified (Unified), and CPN-ML (Splinter group of CP Mainali led ML) in the near future.

When asked about the change of party’s name, Gajurel said that the existing name would not be changed rather ‘United’ would be inserted before Maoist.

In response to a query about the priest of Pashupati Nath Temple and order of the Supreme Court, Gajurel said that the government would file a writ petition against the SC decision demanding it be quashed, as the decision itself was wrong. “To ask the priests who have already resigned from their posts to work is totally wrong and against the existing law.”

“We have never talked and decided about unseating the sitting Chief of the Army Staff Rukmangad Katwal,” he said hinting at persons who were exaggerating the issue unnecessarily.

DREAMS

December 1, 2008

 BY ARATI SHARMA

 Dreams make you glorified

with stately position

of gratitude and desideration

Dreams, of course are vivid,

lavished and most cherished.

It infatuates you

into a world of mirage

and begs you to follow,

as it changes its shape.

But when it shatters

leaves you nothing

except sheer nothingness.

reality impeded with hinges

of desperation and loneliness.

With this the world

becomes black and  white,

your age leaving your life

time slipping through hands

and nowhere you can hide.

The vicinity of emptiness

embraces the broken heart

yet gives nothing

to your pacific eyes.

You cry, try to grasp

this life of nominal value

It is too late to decide

The tumults of your far cry

is pushing your life ahead,

You are already running

There is no time to see your

dreams behind.

“It is a serious human rights violation and a direct challenge to the rule of law to take people into control and kill them, and the Commission has taken this incident seriously,” Pradhan said.

The Commission has also drawn the attention of the government stating that the CPN-Maoist which is leading the government and its sister organization, the YCL, were not committed to human rights.

Alas Sharada…..

November 9, 2008

I saw Sharada Adhikari few days back at Shahid Gate. She was waiting for a bus. Are you writing more stories ? She had said. These were her last words for me. Now she is no more. What a sad news !

Sharada, a litterateur popular in child literature, died of a motorcycle accident Sunday morning while heading towards the home of veteran litterateur Ramesh Bikal. She was at the backside of the motorcycle of Tej Prakash Shrestha, another litterateur known in child literature. At Chabahil, the wheel seized her shawl and she fell down the road and there was a spot death. Secretary at Child Literature Society Nepal, she was fighting for general secretary in its general assembly in the near future. Her rival was Krishna Deep Sigdel. Ramesh Bikal had invited her for lunch and discussion on this issue.

Her husband had passed away six year ago. Now she is survived only by her young daughter Suyesha who is a bachelor level student.

Born on 2022, she looked very young to her age.

Her final rites were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat Sunday evening. Daughter Suyasha lit candle on her pyre. Kathako Kitab, Harayeki Chhori, Bais Patan Tripanna Tal and Musako Basai are some popular works of late Adhikari.

She was lecturer at Padma Kanya Multiple Campus and had been the member of Child Literature Society and Management Committee Member of Sajha Publication.

Perhaps, this incidence will never leave Ramesh Bikal and Tej Prakash Shrestha.

Farewell Sharada !

A 30 kilo Dalit Boy Carries Double

May 13, 2008

By Sarojdillu Vishwokarma from

Thulodumba, Bhojpur

The hilly and vertical trail of Maanidada of Bhojpur, from the Pakribas of Dhankuta, we may usually find, a 30 kilo’s Dalit boy carrying more than 50 kg port with bared foot. Sometimes, he has to carry double weight in the short destination. Can we imagine? Obviously…! that is 14 yrs old-Lalchandra Charmakaar of Sikhuwa Deurali, climbing weekly there with the heavy port.

The Dalit child, Charmakaar has the regular duty to carry the heavy load for solving his family’s daily hand to mouth problem. He is also reading in grade 6 and goes to school only 4 day per week and rest of the day, he regular carries the goods of local traders. After the class of Thursday, he comes to Falante Haat and from early of tomorrow morning, he starts to carry the loads for earning only five hundred rupees cash, then feeds his family and pays for his brothers and sisters’ schooling and other baggage’s expenses. His foot is deeply tore and exercised by walking and walking in the vertical and rocky hills. He neither knows the government has been giving incentives nor some development organizations are working for the Dalit children. He has no information of scholarship provision of his school as well as he knows nothing about ‘What is Dalit’. Only he knows that he has to usually carry the port to fulfill his domestic utilities for feeding 5 smaller.

His father works as farmer labour in the village and uses his earn for the daily wine, how much he gets. And mother is half-mind, so she doesn’t do anything. Sometime father collects the skin of dead animal and sales those in the Falante Haat. Therefore, his whole family has been depended on Lalchandra’s earning.

He has been doing this job since when he was 10 yrs., in steed of caring the port, he generally gets 20rs. per kilo and spends 500rs. for the accommodation along the way. Despite his father is shoe maker too, Lalchandra hasn’t feel of wearing the shoe yet on his foot. Sometimes he has to walks on bare foot, if he can’t save money to buy the simple sandal.

Most of people of edge of the way, know him as the Saarki Keto (shoe-maker boy), therefore he has to stay at the out of local dwells every night, because the higher castes’ dwellers don’t give him stay inner side of local hotel. And, for whom, how the summer session goes, likewise the winter passes over.

His younger brother also has just started to carry the small port. And, he hopes that the small sister also help on his job, after 3-4 year. Then they will feel easier to survive the life.

At the moment, I remember to those who are doing the dhandaa (business) of children rights throughout the country and earning adequate name & fame on the name of these Dalit and such children, and I would like to ask -why they can’t recognize to Lalchandra and such others.

Now, we should comprehend that there is different between these ages’ children, who have to carry the heavy port daily only for surviving their life, and some, who are working for child rights, their children ingenerally fly by plane nationally and internationally for the study. Then we can consider how the Dalit children’s education status grows up and how they grab the better opportunities as the higher castes. Lets think about him- may he cross the SLC boarder ? Or, should he always to carry up the ports beside of his better life ? Many of the Dalit Children should have to compel to do so as the job of Lalchandra. If government and other development stakeholders not realize to the hurt of such Lalchandras, they again and again will be forbidden and excluded from the national incentives and are out of their rights.

DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH

February 9, 2008

It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:
Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.
METHOD OF TREATMENT
1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water
2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute
3. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours
5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.
The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce main diseases:
1. High Blood Pressure (30 days)
2. Gastric (10 days)
3. Diabetes (30 days)
4. Constipation (10 days)
5. Cancer (180 days)
6. TB (90 days)
7. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards – daily.

This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times.
It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life. Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.
This makes sense … The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ..not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain…
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.
It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this “sludge” reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.
Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
A serious note about heart attacks:
· Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting,
· Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
· You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
· Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
· 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
· Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let’s be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive…

A True Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi

September 30, 2007

October 2 is Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. UNO is set to celebrate the day as international day of non-violence since this year.

A world event It took one remarkable man to defeat the British Empire and free a nation of 350 million people. His goal was freedom for India. His strategy was peace. His weapon was humanity. In January 1948, before three pistol shots put an end to his life, Gandhi had been on the political stage for more than fifty years. He inspired two generations of India patriots, shaken an empire and sparked off a revolution which was to change the face of Africa and Asia. To millions of his own people, he was the Mahatma- the great soul- whose sacred glimpse was a reward in itself. By the end of 1947 he had lived down much of the suspicion, ridicule and opposition, when he first raised the banner of revolt against racial exclusiveness and imperial domination. His ideas, once dismissed as quaint and utopian, had begun to strike answering chords in some of the finest minds in the world. “Generations to come, it may be”, Einstein had said of Gandhi in July 1944, “will scarcely believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon earth.”

Though his life had been continual unfolding of an endless drama, Gandhi himself seemed the least dramatic of men. It would be difficult to imagine a man with fewer trappings of political eminence or with less of the popular image of a heroic figure. With his loin cloth, steel-rimmed glasses, rough sandals, a toothless smile and a voice which rarely rose above a whisper, he had a disarming humility. He used a stone instead of soap for his bath, wrote his letters on little bits of paper with little stumps of pencils which he could hardly hold between his fingers, shaved with a crude country razor and ate with a wooden spoon from a prisoner’s bowl.

Gandhi’s deepest strivings were spiritual, but he did not-as had been the custom in his country- retire to a cave in the Himalayas to seek his salvation. He carried his cave within him. He did not know, he said, any religion apart from human activity; the spiritual law did not work in a vacuum, but expressed itself through the ordinary activities of life. This aspiration to relate the spirit- not the forms-of religion to the problems of everyday life runs like a thread through Gandhi’s career; his uneventful childhood, the slow unfolding and the near- failure of his youth, reluctant plunge into the politics of Natal, the long, unequal struggle in South Africa, and the vicissitudes of the Indian struggle for freedom, which under his leadership was to culminate in a triumph not untinged with tragedy.

Gandhi was inevitable. If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable. He lived, thought and acted, inspired by the vision of humanity evolving toward a world of peace and harmony. We may ignore Gandhi at our own risk. “

To My Wife

July 14, 2007

BY HAROLD PINTER

(Harold Pinter, born in 1930, is one of my most favourite writers who was awarded Nobel Prize in Literature in 2005. He is best known for theatrical work, but was a poet before a playwright, and in early 2005, told the BBC that he was leaving plays to focus on poetry and political speeches. His poetry publications include War, winner of the Wilfred Owen Award, which, although only one of many awards including a CBE, the Shakespeare Prize (Hamburg) and the European Prize for Literature (Vienna) may well hold special weight for Pinter as it is given for both the poetic and political qualities of an author’s work.- Chanky Shrestha)

I was dead and now I live
You took my hand

I blindly died
You took my hand

You watched me die
And found my life

You were my life
When I was dead

You are my life
And so I live

PARADISE NOW

July 8, 2007

Hany Abu-Assad’s Paradise Now (2005, Palestine, 91 mins) is Arabic film with English subtitles.

Said and khaled are walking time bombs. With explosives strapped to their bodies, the two young Palestinians slip into lsrael, planning a suicide mission in Tel Aviv. Can anything change their minds? Paradise Now-sweepingly powerful and intricately detailed, highly acclaimed and widely controversial – tells the story of these two lifelong friends and their mission of doom. Hany Abu-Assad (the director) directs, shooting this harrowing thriller in locations made equally harrowing by real-life missile attacks, exploding land mines, suspicious Palestinian factions and Israeli occupied forces, and the kidnapping of a crew member. The result is a film that knows its topic up close and provides no easy answers. Instead, Paradise Now lays bare the humanity and the horror for all to see, to ponder… and perhaps to change.

The film is being screened in Martin Chautari on coming Thursday, June 12. The entry is free.
