School of Revolution

February 25, 2007

When
I came across the lady
I realised
prostitution in this country
is also a powerful action
against the crofty politics.

An ideology of constitution
is bejeweled with embroidered cloth
within the theory of John Hobbes
The Fundamental Rights
are imprisoned within the book of constitution
with elaborated figure of speech
Both system and revolt
in this country are
the smooth balls of chestnuts
which contain nothing
but mildew.

When
I came across the lady
I realized
prostitution in this country
can be better system than democracy.

The image of lord Buddha
and the news of violence
in our nation
are being sold together
selling together are the treason and poetry of sentiments
Yet ! a profiteering profession
of revolution and of security
are being motivated together
Right to Information in this country
is as much secured as the citizens

Aspiration
for the consequences of honesty
in this nation
is a young lady’s desire
for comfortable sexual intercourse
with that man
who is inborn eunuch
though the revolution is not possible without honesty
and the revolution is the primitive hunger of the country

A bottomless sorrow !
There is a heart-breaking sorrow !
What relationship is
among sorrow, prostitution and honesty ?
When
I came across the lady
I realized
A brothel can be
the first school of revolution.

The Mess of Love

February 21, 2007

(Dear reader, I love reading DH Lawrence very much. His novels, stories as well as poetry are really great. Simple language but great philosophical touch. This poem carries a great philosophical poetic sobriety which necessarily makes you ponder over your passion to your sweatheart. When I feel pessimistic, I read this poem and pacify myself.)

-By D. H. Lawrence

We have made a great mess of love
since we have made an ideal of it

The moment I swear to love a woman, a certain woman,
all my life
That moment I begin to hate her

The moment I even say to a woman: I love you !
My love dies down considerably
The moment love is understood thing between us, we are sure of it
It’s a cold egg, it isn’t love any more

Love is like a flower, it must flower and fade
If it doesn’t fade, it is not a flower
It’s either an artificial rag blossom, or an immortelle,
for the cemetary

The moment the mind interfers with love, or the will fixes on it,
or the personality assumes it is an attribute,
or the ego takes possession of it,
It is not love any more, it is just a mess

And we’ve made a great mess of love, mind-perverted,
will-perverted, ego-perverted

Insult aches rather than a jab

February 18, 2007

Kalapremi Samuha, a group of young ghazal writers, musicians and singers sent me an ivitation card which consisted two sessions. Ricitation of ghazals, talk and honour programme at Academy consisted the first session and the second was with singing ghazal and dinner at C/W. Sharmila Napit called me and asked to participate both the sessions.

We reached at C/W after the first session. I was together with Kantipur journalist Leela Ballav Ghimire, Ram Mani Sitaula and other two persons to whom I was new. We took our seats. A hasty-nasty person from the organiser approached and said to a person who was with us and unknown to me– Where are you from brother ? He told he was from media.
‘Which media ?’
‘Samay Sarathi.’
‘Sorry, this refreshment is not for media. Please be off.’

We were very badly disturbed and felt insulted though the misbehavior was not with us. We also were mediapersons. He might behave same as with the person. The person who was misbehaved did not leave but we four left the hall.

They invited us to have dinner and fed an insult. We felt the insult ached rather than a jab.

Rakesh Sharma’s Final Solution at Martin Chautari

February 12, 2007

Final Solution, an Indian documentary by Rakesh Sharma is being shown by Martin Chautari at its Babermahal premises at 3 pm on Feb 15. If you are interested please be there. The entry is free. The synopsis of the film is given below-

Final Solution is a study of the politics of hate. Set in Gujarat during the period Feb/March 2002 – July 2003, the film graphically documents the changing face of right-wing politics in India through a study of the 2002 genocide of Moslems in Gujarat. It specifically examines political tendencies reminiscent of the Nazi Germany of early/mid-1930s. Final Solution is anti-hate/ violence as “those who forget history are condemned to relive it”

This documentary has been screened at over 80 international film festivals and has won several international awards.

Discussions take place at Martin Chautari

Poor Valentine poets !

February 12, 2007

A group of poets are organising a special programme of love poetry recitation at Gurukul on February 14 on the occasion of Valentine Day. What a joke ! Kahin navaeko jatra handi gaunma (The festival which is celebrated nowhere but in Handigaun) !

I don’t mean to say love poetry is totally useless. Love is an important part of human life. Thus, it should be the subject of poetry, too. It means love (man-woman making love) is all in all. Kavita Club, the organiser, is pleading love is all in all. If it is so, why do they wander for earning a livelihood ? Why don’t they make love with opposite sex every moment ?
Besides, Valentine Day has entered this country as a major tool of cultural emperialism and consumerism. On the pretext of Valentine Day, trade fo invitation cards and gifts of crores has been done by the trades. Should the poets not mock at this ? Alas, they are making themselves unknowingly a tool of emperialism and consumerism ! They are very clever to make the programme sellable by including some popular poets like Bairagi Kainla, Shaymal, Shrawan Mukarung, Sharada Sharma, Dinesh Adhikary, Abinash Shrestha etc.
Yes, love poetry recitation programme can be encouraged. Why don’t we choose some minority community love festivals for that ?

Literary manifesto of Dolakha Symposium

February 12, 2007

I had been to Charikot Sunday evening. A bundle of literateurs including Bairagi Kainla, Khagendra Sangraula, Bimal Niva, Shyamal, Ninu Chapagain, Ishworechandra Gyawali, Sudha Tripathy, Shrwan Mukarung, Narayan Dhakal, Harigovinda Luintel etc. who had fought in April Movement had left on Feb 9.

A two day literary symposium organised by Indreni Sahitya Samaj, Dolakha Sahitya Samaj and Progressive Writers’ Association, Dolakha was held on Feb 10 and 11. They discussed about the way the Nepali literature should take. Ishworechandra Gyawali, Sudha Tripathy and Dr. Govinda Raj Bhattarai had presented their working papers. Every speaker stressed on the role of literateurs for democratic republicanism.

I was a member at the rapporting and manifesto draft committee in which Shyamal was the coordinator and, Thakur Belbase and Bishnu Bhandary were other members. The committee presented seven point manifesto which stressed on the creative interventions of writers for democratic republicanism. I don’t know how it was though it was unanimously passed and appreciated very much.

The programme was really immemorable for me. I was in touch with some hearty friends who are journalists and writers like Chiranjivi Maskey, Rajendra Manandhar, Bhojraj Neupane, Bishnu Subedi. I can’t forget Geeta Shivakoti, Jaya Budhthoki, Biswas Bhandary, Hari Khanal, Jit Karki, legislator Ananda Prasad Pokhrel to whom I was personally unknown but known according to them heartily with my stories and articles. (I am sorry if I have become egocentric). I don’t forget them who had invited me to their home. Thanks my friends.
Thank you Dolakha, you have lent Nepali literature very much.

Mahanta Thakur’s optimism

February 2, 2007

We know the castle can not be made on air, though Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives and coordinator of the newly formed committee to hold talks with Madhesi groups Mahantha Thakur is optimistic. He said that the Terai problem would be solved through dialogue and negotiations.

The government is ready to hold talks with the agitating sides on all of their demands, he said at a talk organised by Reporters’ Club Nepal this afternoon. “The government is committed to unconditional negotiations.”

Thakur’s team has been given full mandate to hold talks on all of the Terai demands, including proportionate elections, federal structure and redrawing of electoral constituencies based on size of population.

Thakur asked all the concerned parties to go for peaceful means, not violent protests, for the resolution of the problems. “I am confident that the we will be able to hammer out solutions through talks.”

He said that he would soon meet with the Madhesi groups that include Madhesi People’s Rights Forum as well as two groups of Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha, breakaway factions of the CPN (Maoist), seek solution through mutual understanding. Coalition partner Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandi Devi) has also supported the protest.

He said he would go to Terai for talks if need be and asked the rebellious forces not to put forth conditions during negotiations. “The government has already expressed its commitment to proportionate elections and a federal structure and we will address other agendas as well.”

He said that the government would assess the damages done during the violent protests in the eastern Terai and provide compensation. He also clarified that the government would not mobilise army to quell the violence.

Wish you a great success Minister Thakur.
