A two day SAARC fiction writers’ conference was organised on Dec 1 and 2 in Kathmandu in which i also participated. There was no big diva of Nepali fictions nor of India. Besides, there were only the writers from India and Nepal. Does SAARC mean only Nepal and India ? I am fan of Indian alive fiction writers like Uday Prakash, Binod Kumar Sukla, Bishnu Khare, Krishnaa Sobti and so on. There was no one of them Nepali writers fond of. Are the sophist writers represent Indain fiction who is selected by old Indian siren Ajit Kaur, the president of SAARC Writers’ Foundation ? Bhuban Dhungana, Bhagirati Shrestha, Pushkar Lohani, Sampada Malla read their stories representing Nepali fiction ? Do they really represent Nepali fiction ? What a consuela biaz ….. ha ha ha… touch wood the great fiction…

Hie,
thank you so much for writing your views. When I was offered to recite a story as a representative of Nepali fiction, even I thought for many days if I deserved it or not. Finally, I received an answer, they chose me as a representative of the young generation who have mostly lost the taste of nepali reading. Even I was amazed and sad that there was no one of my peer group in the conference. They were all at least ten years older than me. I am nineteen now.
I agree that only writers from India and Nepal were invited but this was just the beginning. This is a start, dear blogger and we need to appreciate this. I agree that the ‘big’ indian writers could not come in the conference. But, have we realized how busy they are? And this was not a world class event. It was just a small endeavor to bridge of gap of writers.
Its easy to criticise, hard to begin something. I think we need to learn to appreciate too.
In a place where there are so many excellent writers, its hard to choose between them. And don’t you think women writers like Bhuwan Dhungana and Bhagirathi Shrestha represent nepali fiction? They do. As for me, I also represent that group of young urban crowds who needs to be seriously brought into nepali literature.
And yes you said tehre weren’t any big divas of nepali literature. Didn’t you see Diamond Samsher Rana, Banira Giri, Dhruba Chandra Gautam, Krishna Chandra Singh Pradhana and lots of them. Whom were you expecting dear blogger?
I am sorry but I think you need to carry a positive attitude with you. The program had a lot of drawbacks but someone at the least inititaed it. And we must appreciate it. Thanks.
